The Book of Myles: Rapture in Blue (Forthcoming in 2027)

My forthcoming debut novel, The Book of Myles: Rapture in Blue, follows Myles Crescendo, a high school senior, jazz bassist, and band leader in Detroit. After the sudden death of Jermaine, their father and the director of their school’s music program, Myles reconnects with him by playing albums on his record player, which catapults them into the spirit realm. Myles rides the sonic waves through time and space to commune with their ancestors, learn the history of African diasporic music, release a young spirit from the cracks and crevices of purgatory, and resolve a bitter old rivalry between Jermaine and their principal. All their adventures and knowledge are put to the test at the dawn of the Age of Aquarius when they must arise to their prophetic potential in time to write and perform an enchanted symphony at their graduation and stop this rivalry from ending music—thus siphoning off communal communication with the Spirit—at their school for good.
